Illustrated Antique Bible

This Bible is one of our more interesting donations. We don't know too much about it except the opinion of a Lots Road dealer "mass produced and probably worth about a tenner". It has the following details printed on the inside cover page National Illustrated Family Bible, commentary by Scott and Henry. Edited by the Reverend John Eadie D.D, LL.D a Professor of Biblical Literature Of The United Presbyterian Church. John G Murdoch of 41 Castle Street Holborn London EC is named presumably the publisher or printer. Its one of those donations that may not be worth much, however it does stir the imagination. Its value is in the beautiful illustrations and uncovering its history. A quick search on Google revealed the following.
The Rev. John Eadie, D. D., LL. D., formerly Professor of Biblical Literature in the United Presbyterian College at Glasgow, and member of the English New Testament Company. Born at Alva, Stirlingshire, May 9th, 1814, and educated at Glasgow University. He published a "Biblical Cyclopaedia," "Life of Kitto," a "Condensed Concordance of the Holy Scriptures," etc. He was not permitted to see the work of revision completed, but died before its end came.
